March 2-3, 2014 2:00 P.M.
A winter ice storm began on March 2, 2014 at about 7:00 P.M in the Waverly area of Humphreys County with dropping temperatures and rain turning to ice and sleet followed by snow in the early hours of March 3rd . Total sleet, ice and snow accumulation is approximately 2 inches with some reports of higher amounts in the county. Numerous vehicle accidents occurred overnight due to hazardous road conditions. Several roads were blocked and power lines damaged due to falling limbs and trees. County schools and none-essential County offices are closed. Approximately 300 electric customers remain without electricity but estimates are that most electric will be restored by night. Most roads are open but driving conditions are still hazardous particularly on secondary roads. Shelters remain on standby but not opened due to a lack of requests. Present temperature is 25 degrees with light snow. Thanks to all the public and private emergency responders, County and City departments and volunteers that worked most of the night and continued through today.
