CPA Session 7 Graduates!

The 7th session of the Citizens Police Academy graduated Tuesday night.  The class spent its final night on the firearms range where they were able to shoot a variety of departmental weapons and received information about the use of force.  A graduation ceremony and dinner followed.

Each session, the Dept of Public Safety staff selects a "Top Gun" recipient from the class.  The award goes to the student who stands out in participation, attendance, and attitude.  The recipient of the Top Gun Award for Session 7 was Tom Allison.

The class presented the department with two Dick Kramer prints for display in the Police and Fire Buildings.

The Citizens Police Academy ran 11 consecutive weeks including graduation and was held in the WPD training room.  Special training such as firearms and driving took place at other locations.  The topics covered included courts, firearms, defensive tactics, laws, defensive driving, and more.  Participants got an up close and behind the scenes look at what we do and why we do it.

The department's website, www.waverlypublicsafety.com has information about the Citizen's Police Academy.  Pictures from this session are also posted on our Facebook page.
