Citizens Police
Academy
The CPA runs 10 consecutive weeks
including graduation,
and meets
regularly on Thursdays from 6:30pm until 9:30pm.
Some special training may take place at other times. The
academy is held in the WPD training room.
Special training such as firearms and driving takes
place at other locations. The topics covered each week are
the same topics covered in the Tennessee Law Enforcement
Training Academy in
Nashville. The idea is to summarize a week's
worth of training into one night. We cover topics
such as courts, firearms, defensive tactics, laws,
defensive driving, and more. We want the
citizens that we serve to get an up close and behind the scenes
look at what we do and why we do it.
Law enforcement has
become a very complicated profession and many people don’t
understand why we do what we do in certain situations. We want
the citizens of Waverly to have complete confidence in their
police department and feel comfortable approaching any situation
that might involve WPD.
Residents living in the city
limits of Waverly or those working full-time in Waverly will be
given priority consideration for the classes.
Anyone interested will need to fill out an application and
undergo the same screening process as a police officer.
Applicants must be at least 18 years old and be of good moral
character. Thorough background checks
are conducted on each candidate. All
applicants are subject to an interview.
We encourage everyone interested in applying to contact any of
the individuals that graduated from past sessions.
Also, for details or questions concerning the next
session, you may contact WPD at 296-4300.
Session 5 began September 13 for 11 weeks.
Good luck to all the participants!
